The Lawrence High School Focus Film Festival is organized, produced, and run by the film students at Lawrence High School in Lawrence, Kansas. It features not only their own amazing films, but films from high school students from all across Kansas and is a fantastic opportunity for students to have their work seen by their peers and members of the community. All submitted films are evaluated by a panel of judges made up of filmmaking professionals.
Last year, the judges included local filmmakers Marc Havener, Jon Niccum, Patrick Rea (The Empty Acre), and Winter's Bone director and co-writer Debra Granik.
Categories included: comedy, drama, horror/suspense, documentary, animation, experimental, music video (original music) and music video (non-original music) and science fiction/fantasy. Awards are also given for Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Story, Best Acting, Best in Show and Fan Favorite.
